Holzbau-Allianz
Holzbau-Allianz
network
The ‘Holzbau-Allianz Thüringen / Timber-Construction Alliance Thuringia’ is a platform, in which institutions from the entire wood lifecycle are present and through them, so to speak, the tree in the forest, the processing of a trunk into sawn timber, the digital or analogue further processing of wood and its use in construction, including reuse in another building project or for different purposes.
The Alliance was founded by Stiftung Baukultur Thüringen in collaboration with the association Landesbeirat Wald+Holz. It is an integral part of the foundation’s project ‘Woodland’, which is an initiative dedicated to finding promising paths able to establish a new equilibrium between us and our planet. Confronted with the effects of climate change, the natural environment is one of the last forces, which might be able to mitigate the impact of what is to come.
The acceptance of this reality is the first step, which means we have to radically change the way our economy works and the way we live. What is needed in our field is nothing less, than a revolution of the whole construction sector. We need to change the way we build, which means sometimes to not build at all or use what is already there, but in case we decide something new has to be build, we need to take advantage of the opportunities offered by sustainable construction materials. An increased use and reuse of wood in construction and the promotion of its innovative application in architecture and engineering is one of the most promising paths in this challenge. To this end, the Holzbau-Allianz is working on the development of an action strategy for the timber construction sector. At the same time, Stiftung Baukultur Thüringen is working in a number of projects on the topic of modern timber construction.
Like all the initiatives and platforms initiated by the foundation, the Holzbau-Allianz Thüringen is open for everyone. From forest owners to the processing industry and designers, to craftsmen, the industry, the public, everyone is invited to take part in the various initiatives of the alliance and to contribute their know-how and experience.
